RESUMO

The aim of this study was to investigate the low-temperature degradation (LTD) kinetics of tetragonal zirconia with 3 mol% yttria (3Y-TZP) dental ceramic using two degradation methods: hydrothermal degradation and immersed degradation. To study transformation kinetics, we prepared 3Y-TZP powders. We pressed these powders uniaxially into a stainless mold at 100 MPa. We then sintered the compacted bodies at intervals of 50 °C between 1300 °C and 1550 °C and immersed the specimens at various temperatures from 60 °C to 80 °C in 4% acetic acid or from 110 °C to 140 °C for the hydrothermal method. We used a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to confirm crystalline grain size and used X-ray diffraction to analyze the zirconia phase. As the sintering temperature increased, the calculated crystalline grain size also increased. We confirmed this change with the SEM image. The higher sintering temperatures were associated with more phase transformation. According to the Mehl-Avrami-Johnson equation, the activation energies achieved using the hydrothermal method were 101 kJ/mol, 95 kJ/mol, and 86 kJ/mol at sintering temperatures of 1450 °C, 1500 °C, and 1550 °C, respectively. In addition, the activation energies of the specimens immersed in 4% acetic acid were 60 kJ/mol, 55 kJ/mol, 48 kJ/mol, and 35 kJ/mol, with sintered temperatures of 1400 °C, 1450 °C, 1500 °C, and 1550 °C, respectively. The results showed that a lower sintering temperature would restrain the phase transformation of zirconia because of the smaller crystalline grain size. As a result, the rate of LTD decreased.

RESUMO

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained significant attention in the field of regenerative medicine due to its potential therapeutic applications. However, few studies have reported the components, especially anti-ageing-related components, of PRP derived from umbilical cord blood (UCB). It is essential to understand the influence of age on the composition and efficacy of PRP to optimize its clinical use. The present study compared the concentrations of bioactive components in PRP from healthy female adults and UCB-derived PRP. PRP was obtained from blood samples from females in four age groups (12 per group): neonates (UCB donors) and adults aged 18-25, 26-45, and 46-65 years, respectively. The concentrations of epidermal growth factor, basic fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2), insulin-like growth factor-1, platelet-derived growth factor-AA (PDGF-AA), PDGF-AB/BB, vascular endothelial growth factor A, RANTES, TIMP-1, TIMP-2, GDF11, and clusterin and activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in the PRP samples were determined and compared among groups. Pairwise comparisons between the groups showed statistically significant differences in the concentrations of some bioactive components of PRP, such as FGF-2, PDGF-AB/BB, and clusterin, and GPx activity. UCB-derived PRP contains various active ingredients such as VEGF-A, CAT activity, and TIMP-2. Contrary to expectations, UCB-derived PRP did not show higher concentrations of the anti-ageing protein GDF11. Because UCB is a rich source of bioactive components with low immunogenicity, its use in PRP preparation is an important research direction for future studies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In recent years, minimally invasive and non-invasive rejuvenation methods have been welcomed. PRP has been used widely for skin rejuvenation, but there are few studies on PRP for lip rejuvenation. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate the preliminary effects of PRP for lip rejuvenation. METHODS: Between October 2018 and April 2023, 15 participants with lip aging (1 male, 14 females; range 27-58 years) were treated with PRP. The follow-up time was 3 to 24months. After 3 to 6 times treatments, beauty seekers and experienced physicians jointly evaluated effectiveness of treatment. The assessment included improvements in the colour, wrinkles, and skin texture of the lips before and after treatment. RESULTS: According to the beauty seekers and Surgeons 'evaluation, the aging characteristics of the lips of the 15 beauty seekers have been improved to varying degrees. The most obvious improvement was that the color of the lips which became more vivid. There was no swelling, bruising, scar hyperplasia and other complications. A participant was evaluated using the VISIA skin detector. The patient's lip color and discoloration improved after treatment. Of the 15 participants treated. 3 participants experienced mild pain or discomfort during the injection process. There was no swelling, bruising, scar hyperplasia and other complications. CONCLUSION: The results of this study revealed promising evidence of PRP as an effective option on lip rejuvenation. However, large, multi-center, controlled, long term, pilot studies are required to confirm the preliminary results of our study.

RESUMO

In this study, we characterized a WRKY family member gene, SsWRKY1, which is located in the nucleus and contains multiple stress-related cis-acting elements. In addition, constructed SsWRKY1-overexpressing Arabidopsis thaliana had higher antioxidant enzyme activity and proline content under drought stress conditions, with lower malondialdehyde content and reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and the expression levels of six stress-related genes were significantly upregulated. This indicates that the overexpression of SsWRKY1 in Arabidopsis thaliana improves resistance to drought stress. SsWRKY1 does not have transcriptional autoactivation activity in yeast cells. The yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) system and the S. spontaneum cDNA library were used to screen 21 potential proteins that interact with SsWRKY1, and the interaction between SsWRKY1 and ATAF2 was verified by GST pull-down assay. In summary, our results indicate that SsWRKY1 plays an important role in the response to drought stress and provide initial insights into the molecular mechanism of SsWRKY1 in response to drought stress.

RESUMO

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a clinical-neuroradiological syndrome with typical neuroimaging features of posterior cerebral white matter changes that are usually reversible. However, there are only few reports of burns with posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome in the literature. Hence, it is a clinical entity that many burn medicine physicians may be unfamiliar with. We report a case of severe burns complicated by posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome in a 14-month-old male patient. On the eighth day of hospitalization, the child had persistent fever, occasional convulsions, eyes staring to the right, and high-pitched cry. Magnetic resonance imaging on day 10 showed the diagnosis is posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. We used hormone therapy to reduce cerebral oedema, oxcarbazepine to control convulsions, and multiple other drugs and physical measures to treat fever. The symptoms, signs, and imaging abnormalities of his posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome were rapidly reversed in a short period of time. At the 1-year follow-up, the patient had recovered completely with no residual neurological signs and symptoms. To our knowledge, the patient may be the youngest recorded patient with both burns and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. Careful observation, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging can achieve early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, which facilitates the achievement of desired therapeutic results. Further investigation is required to determine whether burns can serve as an independent posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome causative factor and clarify the underlying pathogenesis mechanism.

RESUMO

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are a core positive symptom of schizophrenia and are regarded as a consequence of the functional breakdown in the related sensory process. Yet, the potential mechanism of AVH is still lacking. In the present study, we explored the difference between AVHs (n = 23) and non-AVHs (n = 19) in schizophrenia and healthy controls (n = 29) by using multidimensional electroencephalograms data during an auditory oddball task. Compared to healthy controls, both AVH and non-AVH groups showed reduced P300 amplitudes. Additionally, the results from brain networks analysis revealed that AVH patients showed reduced left frontal to posterior parietal/temporal connectivity compared to non-AVH patients. Moreover, using the fused network properties of both delta and theta bands as features for in-depth learning made it possible to identify the AVH from non-AVH patients at an accuracy of 80.95%. The left frontal-parietal/temporal networks seen in the auditory oddball paradigm might be underlying biomarkers of AVH in schizophrenia. This study demonstrated for the first time the functional breakdown of the auditory processing pathway in the AVH patients, leading to a better understanding of the atypical brain network of the AVH patients.

RESUMO

Objective: This study aims to analyze the serotype distribution and drug resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated from children aged 8 days to 7 years in Urumqi, China, between 2014 to 2021, during which PCV13 was introduced in the private sector's immunization program and COVID-19 control was administrated in the last 2 years. Methods: Serotypes of S. pneumoniae isolates were determined by Quellung reaction, and their susceptibility against 14 antimicrobials were tested. According to the start year of PCV13 administration (2017) and COVID-19 control (2020), the study period was divided into three stages: 2014-2015, 2018-2019, and 2020-2021. Results: A total of 317 isolates were involved in this study. The most common serotypes were type 19F (34.4%), followed by 19A (15.8%), 23F (11.7%), 6B (11.4%), and 6A(5.0%). The coverage rate of both PCV13 and PCV15 was 83.0%. The coverage of PCV20 was a little higher at 85.2%. The resistance rate against penicillin was 28.6% according to the breakpoints of oral penicillin, which would reach up to 91.8% based on the breakpoints of parenteral penicillin for meningitis. The resistance rates to erythromycin, clindamycin, tetracycline, and sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim were 95.9%, 90.2%, 88.9%, and 78.8%, respectively. The PCV13 isolate was more resistant to penicillin than the non-PCV13 ones. There was not any significant change found in the serotype distribution since the PCV13 introduction and the COVID-19 control. The resistance rate against oral penicillin slightly elevated to 34.5% in 2018-2019 from 30.7% in 2014-2015 and then decreased significantly to 18.1% in 2020-2021 (χ 2 = 7.716, P < 0.05), while the resistance rate to ceftriaxone (non-meningitis) continuously declined from 16.0% in 2014-2015 to 1.4% in 2018-2019 and 0% in 2020-2021 (Fisher = 24.463, P < 0.01). Conclusion: The common serotypes of S. pneumoniae isolated from children in Urumqi were types 19F, 19A, 23F, 6B, and 6A, which we found to have no marked change since the PCV13 introduction and the COVID-19 control However, the resistance rate to oral penicillin and ceftriaxone significantly declined in the COVID-19 control stage.

RESUMO

Metal powder bed fusion (PBF) is an advanced metal additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Compared with traditional manufacturing techniques, PBF has a higher degree of design freedom. Currently, although PBF has received extensive attention in fields with high-quality standards such as aerospace and automotive, there are some disadvantages, namely poor process quality and insufficient stability, which make it difficult to apply the technology to the manufacture of critical components. In order to surmount these limitations, it is necessary to monitor the process. Online monitoring technology can detect defects in time and provide certain feedback control, so it can greatly enhance the stability of the process, thereby ensuring its quality of the process. This paper presents the current status of online monitoring technology of the metal PBF process from the aspects of powder recoating monitoring, powder bed inspection, building process monitoring, and melt layer detection. Some of the current limitations and future trends are then highlighted. The combination of these four-part monitoring methods can make the quality of PBF parts highly assured. We unanimously believe that this article can be helpful for future research on PBF process monitoring.

RESUMO

Schizophrenia (SZ) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) share several epidemiological and clinical features, but the neurobiological substrates shared by these two diseases remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the similarities and differences in brain function between them using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Eventually, 130 SZ patients, 70 OCD and 75 normal controls (NCs) were enrolled. A 52-channel NIRS instrument was used to detect the concentration changes in oxygenated hemoglobin ([oxy-Hb]) during the verbal fluency task. Ten regions of interests (ROIs) were defined: the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), frontopolar cortex (FPC), orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), inferior prefrontal gyrus (IFG) and temporal gyrus (TG). Through two different analysis strategies based on channels or ROIs, we compared the [oxy-Hb] changes in three groups by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc tests. Across 52 channels, compared to the NC group, both SZ and OCD groups exhibited reduced activity in 17 channels, including left FPC, left DLPFC, bilateral OFC, IFG, middle TG, supplementary motor cortex and Broca's area, while SZ showed lower activity in channel 35 (right OFC) than OCD patients. Across all ROIs, compared to the NC group, both SZ and OCD groups showed reduced activity in 7 ROIs, including left FPC, bilateral OFC, IFG and TG, while SZ showed lower activity in the right OFC than OCD group, which were almost consistent with the results based on channels. This study suggests SZ and OCD present with some similar neuropathological changes, while SZ shows more severe impairment in the right OFC than OCD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies showed that the COVID-19 outbreak increased the levels of depression and anxiety in heterogeneous populations. However, none has explored the prevalence and correlates of depression and anxiety among Chinese international students studying in US colleges during the pandemic. OBJECTIVE: This study examines the prevalence of depression and anxiety among Chinese international students enrolled in US universities during the COVID-19 pandemic and identifies the associated factors, including habits, social and psychological support, sleep quality, and remote learning. METHODS: Between June and July 2020, we conducted a cross-sectional study through Wenjuanxing, a web-based survey platform. Participants were recruited with snowball sampling through 21 Chinese international student associations in US universities. The survey consisted of demographic questions, the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and self-constructed questions on academic performance, financial concerns, use of social media, physical exercise, and psychological support. Cut-off scores of 10 were used for both PHQ-9 and GAD-7 to determine the binary outcomes of depression and anxiety, respectively. Bivariant analyses and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the associated factors. RESULTS: Among 1881 participants, we found a prevalence of depression (PHQ-9 score⩾ 10) at 24.5% and that of anxiety (GAD-7 score⩾ 10) at 20.7%. A higher risk of depression was associated with recent exposure to traumatic events, agreement to pandemic's negative impacts on financial status, agreement and strong agreement to the negative impacts of remote learning on personal relationships, and a higher ISI score. A lower risk of depression was associated with disagreement to the negative impacts of remote learning on academic performance and future careers, strong willingness to seek professional help with emotional issues, and a higher SSRS score. In addition, a higher risk of anxiety was associated with recent exposure to traumatic events, a lot of workloads, often staying up for online classes, agreement and strong agreement to the negative impacts of remote learning on personal relationships, and a higher ISI score. A lower risk of anxiety was associated with the willingness and strong willingness to seek professional help with emotional issues, and a higher SSRS score. CONCLUSION: This study showed a high prevalence of depression and anxiety among Chinese international students studying in US colleges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Multiple correlates-including recent exposure to traumatic events, pandemic-related financial concerns, workload, social support, remote learning, willingness to seek professional help, and sleep quality-were identified. It is critical for future studies to further investigate this student population and for universities to provide more flexible learning options and more access to psychological services.

RESUMO

In the present study, the differences in the antioxidant capability, metabolite composition and fungal diversity in peach gum with various colours were investigated. Metabolomics revealed that peach gum comprised many small-molecule metabolites (including primary and secondary metabolites), and most polyphenols (such as flavonoids and phenolic acids) showed a significantly positive relationship with the colour deepening, total phenol content and antioxidant capability. Using fungal diversity analysis, the abundance of five fungi at the genus level increased with peach gum colour deepening, and these fungi demonstrated a significantly positive relationship with two defense hormones (salicylic acid and abscisic acid) and most polyphenols (particularly flavonoids). The gummosis pathogenic fungus Botryosphaeria was among the five fungi, suggesting that peach gum colouring may reflect plant defense responses against pathogenic fungi. Additionally, the concentrations of 12 flavonoids in peach gum samples were detected based on LC-QQQ/MS, among which hesperetin, naringenin and eriodictyol were the most abundant.

RESUMO

We aimed to illustrate the roles and molecular mechanisms of ID2-AS1 in parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: qRT-PCR detected the expression of ID2-AS1. CCK-8, LDH release assays the effect of ID2-AS1 knockdown on PD cells. Flow cytometry and Western Blot were used to detect the effect of ID2-AS1 inhibition on PD cell apoptosis. ELISA analysis showed that ID2-AS1 inhibition can reduce the inflammation of PD cells. ROS activity assay showed that inhibiting ID2-AS1 attenuated the oxidative stress induced by 1-methy1-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+). RNA binding protein immunoprecipitation assay showed that ID2-AS1 is mainly located in the cytoplasm. The luciferase reporter assay is used to verify the interaction. In our study, ID2-AS1 was concentration-dependently and time-dependently up-regulated in MPP+ -treated human neuroblastoma cell line SH-SY5Y. ID2-AS1 knockdown enhanced cell proliferation and decreased cell death in PD cells. Knockdown of ID2-AS1 attenuates MPP+ -induced cytotoxicity in SH-SY5Y cells. ID2-AS1 is a sponge of miR-199a-5p. IFNAR1 is a target of miR-199a-5p. Inhibition of miR-199a-5p and overexpression of IFNAR1 alleviate the inhibitory effect of ID2-AS1 knockdown on MPP+ triggered neuronal injury. Inhibition of miR-199a-5p and overexpression of IFNAR1 alleviate the inhibitory effect of ID2-AS1 knockdown on MPP+ -triggered JAK2/STAT1 activation. Overall, down-regulation of ID2-AS1 alleviated the neuronal injury in PD through regulating miR-199a-5p/IFNAR1/JAK2/STAT1 axis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical therapeutic effect of fire needling stripping after local anesthesia, simple fire needling and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy on verruca vulgaris. METHODS: A total of 900 patients with verruca vulgaris were randomized into a fire needling stripping group (300 cases, 2 cases dropped off), a fire needling group (300 cases, 4 cases dropped off) and a liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group (300 cases, 5 cases dropped off). After local anesthesia of compound lidocaine cream, fire needling therapy was adopted, and the necrotic tissue of verruca was stripped in the fire needling stripping group. Simple fire needling therapy was adopted in the fire needling group, without local anesthesia and stripping. Liquid nitrogen cryotherapy was adopted in the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group. The treatment was given once a week, and totally 3 weeks were required in the 3 groups. The skin lesion scores of number, area, thickness, color, pruritus, isomorphism and the level of T lymphocyte (CD+3、CD+4、CD+8、CD+4/ CD+8) in peripheral blood were observed before and after treatment, and the adverse reaction was recorded in the 3 groups. Five weeks after treatment, the therapeutic effect was evaluated. RESULTS: Compared before treatment, the skin lesion scores were decreased (P<0.05), the levels of T lymphocyte in peripheral blood were increased in the 3 groups (P<0.05). After treatment, all the items of the skin lesion score in the fire needling stripping group were lower than those in the fire needling group and the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group (P<0.05), the levels of T lymphocyte in peripheral blood were higher than those in the fire needling group and the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group (P<0.05); all the items of the skin lesion score in the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group were lower than those in the fire needling group (P<0.05). At the follow-up, the total effective rate was 88.6% (264/298) in the fire needling stripping group, which was superior to 81.4% (241/296) in the fire needling group and 81.4% (240/295) in the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group (P<0.05). The cases of infection, causalgia and cicatrix in the liquid nitrogen cryotherapy group were more than those in the fire needling stripping group and the fire needling group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Fire needling stripping after local anesthesia can effectively treat the verruca vulgaris, improve the skin lesion and immunity, its therapeutic effect is superior to simple fire needling and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy.

The Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) genes, playing key roles in mediating the immune response, especially HLA class II alleles were suggested to play a role in the activation of autoreactive T-cells in aplastic anemia (AA). Previous studies in different ethnic groups have indicated that some of HLA-A,-B,-DRB1 alleles had a protective or susceptive association with the prevalence, pathogenesis and development of AA. HLA class II genes, especially HLA-DQB1 and -DPB1 alleles or haplotypes at high-resolution level associated with AA have not been fully identified in northern Chinese Han populations. The aim of this study was to identify association of the variations in HLA class II region with AA in northern Chinese Han population. A recent case-control study, including 96 AA patients and 824 healthy controls was performed. The high-resolution HLA genotyping was conducted by PCR-SBT, -SSO and NGS-ION S5TM platform. Based on genotypic data of the three loci, haplotype estimation was carried out. HLA-DRB1*15:01 (Pc = 2.87 × 10-3; OR = 2.11, 95% CI = 1.45-3.07) and HLA-DQB1*06:02 (Pc = 1.86 × 10-2; OR = 2.01, 95% CI = 1.32-3.06) were the risk and predisposition alleles to AA in northern Chinese Han after considering multiple testing. Moreover, the HLA-DRB1*15:01-DQB1*06:02 (Pc = 4.90 × 10-3; OR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.37-3.19) and HLA-DRB1*14:05-DQB1*05:03 (Pc = 2.65 × 10-2; OR = 2.82, 95%CI = 1.45-5.50) haplotypes had direct strong relevance to AA and were the susceptible haplotypes. HLA-DPB1 alleles and 23 polymorphic amino acid residues spanning exon 2 ~ 4 of DPß1 molecules have showed no statistically significant associations between AA and controls. The present findings establish a novel link between inherited HLA-DRB1,-DQB1,-DPB1 risk alleles and haplotypes in northern Chinese Han with AA, and open new avenues for development of targeted therapies to prevent or redirect immunopathology in AA.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of warming acupuncture on uterine blood perfusion in the patients with failed high-quality freeze-thawed embryo transfer (FET) and explore its effect mechanism on the improvement of clinical pregnancy rate after re-tranfer. METHODS: A total of 72 patients of failed high-quality FET were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 36 cases in each one. In the observation group, after the menstrual period ended, warming acupuncture started at the acupoints located on the abdomen, e.g. Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zhongji (CV 3) and Qugu (CV 2) and those on the lumbar sacral region, e.g. Shenshu (BL 23), Mingmen (GV 4) and Yaoyangguan (GV 3), 50 min in each treatment, once daily, at the interval of 1 day after 4-day treatment. The treatment was discontinued till the patients were at the ovulatory stage. In the control group, nuangong yunzi capsules were taken orally and continuously after the end of menstrual period, 3 capsules each time, three times a day and stopped at the ovulatory stage. The treatment of one menstrual cycle was taken as one course and the treatment for 3 menstrual cycles was required. Before and after treatment, the uterine artery pulsation index (PI), endometrial thickness, endometrial type, uterine blood perfusion, the recovery time of sufficient uterine blood flow, the endomentrial receptivity (ER) during the implantation window period and the clinical pregnancy rate were observed in the two groups. RESULTS: After treatment, the endometrial thickness was increased and PI decreased obviously in the two groups (P<0.05) and PI in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the proportion of type a and type A of endometrium was increased markedly in the two groups (P<0.05) and the proportion in the observation group was higher than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the case proportion of sufficient uterine blood flow was increased obviously in the two groups (P<0.05) and the value in the observation group was higher than the control group [83.3% (30/36) vs 69.4% (25/36), P<0.05]. After treatment, the proportion of ER during the implantation window period was increased remarkably in the two groups (P<0.05) and the value in the observation group was higher than the control group [72.2% (26/36) vs 50.0% (18/36), P<0.05]. The recovery time of sufficient uterine blood flow in the observation group was shorter than the control group (P<0.05) and the clinical pregnancy rate was higher than the control group [47.2% (17/36) vs 33.3% (12/36), P<0.05]. CONCLUSION: Warming acupuncture enhances uterine blood perfusion and improves uterine endometrial receptivity so that the clinical pregnancy rate is increased after re-transfer in the patients with failed high-quality freeze-thawed embryo transfer.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Lifetime intellectual engagement may be associated with cognitive ability late in life. However, the current evidence on whether cognitive activities will improve and/or maintain cognitive function is heterogeneous. Drawing on knowledge of the brain's intrinsic small-world organization which combines regional specialization and efficient global information transfer, we aimed to explore that whether individual differences in the small-worldness of resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) networks would explain the variability in the strength of the association between intellectual engagement and cognitive functioning. METHODS: Sixty-five elderly people without dementia were enrolled and scanned with a 52-channel near-infrared spectroscopy system. The number, frequency, and participation hours of intellectual activities were investigated to measure intellectual engagement. Global cognition was assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. The general linear models and the simple slope analysis were employed to measure the modulatory role of network properties. RESULTS: The small-worldness of the brain network emerged as a moderator of the association between intellectual engagement and cognition. Exclusively among elderly people with lower small-worldness, greater intellectual engagement, including the frequency and participation hours of activities, was associated with greater global cognitive function. Furthermore, we observed that elderly people with lower small-worldness exhibited decreased rsFC across the bilateral frontopolar areas and increased rsFC across the bilateral parietal cortex. CONCLUSION: The individual differences in the small-worldness of rsFC networks might explain the varying strength of the association between intellectual engagement and cognitive functioning. Our findings imply that the intrinsic small-worldness of the brain network might be a potential neurobiological contributor that interacts with the intellectual engagement in enhancing the cognitive ability in late life.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effect between wheat-grain moxibustion at Yinbai (SP 1) and oral administration of dydrogesterone tablet for menstrual period prolongation after down-regulation treatment of in vitro fertilization embryo transfer (IVF-ET). METHODS: A total of 54 patients with prolonged menstrual period after down-regulation treatment of IVF-ET were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 27 cases in each one. In the observation group, when the menstrual period delayed more than 7 days, the wheat-grain moxibustion at Yinbai (SP 1) was performed, once a day, with an interval of 1 day between two 3-day treatments; when the menstrual blood was cleaned, the ovulation was continued and the eggs were taken. In the control group, when the menstrual period delayed more than 7 days, the oral administration of dydrogesterone tablet was provided, 10 mg each time, twice a day; when the menstrual blood was cleaned, the ovulation was continued and the eggs were taken. The number of days for menstrual blood to be cleaned, the area change of uterine cavity hemorrhage, the morphology of endometrium, the blood supply of endometrium, the number of oocytes obtained, the grade of frozen embryo and the clinical effect were observed between the two groups after treatment. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the number of days for menstrual blood to be cleaned was shorter in the observation group after treatment (P<0.05); the area of uterine cavity hemorrhage in the observation group was smaller than that in the control group (P<0.05); the morphology of endometrium and the supply of blood flow in the observation group were superior to those in the control group (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the number of oocytes obtained and available frozen embryo between the two groups (P>0.05). The cured rate in the observation group was 100.0% (27/27), higher than 33.3% (9/27) in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The wheat-grain moxibustion at Yinbai (SP 1) could more effectively treat prolonged menstrual period after IVF-ET down-regulation treatment, which is beneficial to the preparation of the endometrium, and has no effect on the oocyte collection and embryo culture.
